There are so many new trends in hair accessories that are available for purchase this season. But why waste your money when you could easily make them yourself?

Check out this feather headband from Barney’s New York. For sixty-five dollars it can be yours.

But at your local craft store a headband, a bag of feathers, and a bottle of glue are only a few dollars.

More elaborate feather headbands like this one,can also be made by making a bow out of tulle and gluing it, feathers, and a jewel on to a headband. It is just that simple. Use pinking shears to give the bow a unique shape.

Check scrap bins at places like Wal-Mart for small pieces of material to make bows, you may end up with an awesome headband like this polka dot one.

A new trend in hair accessories is mini hats and veils. Hats, netting, flowers, feathers, and clips can all be bought at craft stores, all you need is a model to follow and then add your own flair. Check out these:

For a pillar-box hat like this one try covering a pickle jar lid with material and then attaching it to a headband or clip.

A new favorite in hair accessories is lace. Lace is easily found at fabric stores, but try a more creative approach. Go to your local thrift store and find some lace curtains to cut up, dye them any color you like.

Do you have an old flower arrangement that is worse for ware? Try pulling the flower tops off of the stems and decorate them with sequins and tulle. Then make your flower into the accessory of your choice.

If you like a little bling try making rhinestone accessories. Self-adhesive rhinestones are available everywhere now, even at the dollar store. These stone can be added to all types of accessories.

A fun, inexpensive accessory you can make is to take a men’s tie and make it into a cloth headband by cutting it to size. You could also sew it into a hatband by stitching it around a hat. Men’s ties come in a variety of colors and patterns; try buying one used.

Make hair sticks out of beads, pins, and wood chopsticks. Spray-paint your chopsticks the color you wish, and then put your bead on the pin. Push the pin into the chopstick. If your pin won’t go in, try soaking your sticks in water to make them softer.

Use a thin wire and beads to make a wavy headband. Take two long thin wires; bend them into the shape of your choice. String the beads onto the wires. When finished connect the ends of the two wires into a headband shape.

You can also put your wire onto a bobby pin and make a multi colored, beaded bobby pin.

Spray paint puzzle pieces and glue them onto clips and headbands for a crafty look.

You can make accessories out of almost anything, so check scrap bins, thrift stores, and junk drawers for shiny things and materials that you like.

Have you ever had a car that constantly made an irritating rattling noise, and no matter how many times you would take it in to be checked, a problem could never be found? What about a window that sometimes wouldn’t roll up or down all the way? What if this happened more than once? Federal and state lemon laws address recurring mechanical issues and offer consumer protection within the vehicular industry. Although individual states have their own guidelines to claim a “lemon,” federal lemon laws set forth guidelines to follow if you believe your new car may be eligible for a remedy.

Anywhere from 6 to 8 repairs for the entire product (including automobiles, boats, motorcycles, RVs, computers, and even wheelchairs)

3 to 4 repairs for any one problem

Coverage is extended for the life of the warranty (referring to the Manufacturer’s Express Warranty) and up to an additional 4 years

As for used cars, you can qualify if you purchased a vehicle with a warranty still left, for example, if you purchased an extended warranty or if you bought a “certified” pre-owned vehicle. If your car does not have a warranty, there are numerous other laws that may protect you other than the lemon laws. For example, if your car was previously involved in a flood or was wrecked, you may be eligible for compensation.

In addition to these guidelines, it is important to check with your state to look at the specific requirements. At http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/ you can select your state from the map and view the specifics and how to claim your lemon. Oftentimes it is necessary to hire an attorney to take the automobile manufacturer to court, which may seem like a daunting process, but federal law also provides that if you succeed in court, your attorney fees will be paid for by the warrantor. If you believe you might have a lemon, it is recommended that you go through the process of receiving compensation, not to mention the automobile that you thought you had purchased. Consumer protection laws are in place to help and to serve justice to all.

As many women know, skin care can be very expensive. But for generations women have also been using natural and DIY cures.

For dull skin:

You can make rose water by boiling two cups of live rose petals in one liter of water. Chilled rose water lasts for up to a week and can be applied with a cotton ball and used as an astringent.

Try adding lavender to a facial steamer. Steamers are inexpensive and can be bought at many department stores. Be careful using lavender oil, which can add too much oil to your pores. Dried or fresh lavender is best.

Add fresh or dried sage and rosemary to alcohol to make an astringent. If this is too drying try witch hazel.

Add fresh rose petals to witch hazel to make an astringent.

Rub turmeric onto your cheeks to add a golden glow.

Scrub your face with dry oatmeal to remove dead skin.

Mix goats milk lotion with violet oil to make a body lotion.

Vodka and fresh mint can be used as an astringent.

Boil lettuce in water for ten minutes, drain and use as an astringent. Adds extra moisture.

Wash your face with green tea, or add two cups to your bath.

Ylang Ylang essential oil can be put onto your face with a cotton ball to give your skin an extra glow.

Make a body scrub out of sea salt and Epson salt.

Moisturize your face, heals, and elbows with coconut or almond oil.

Drink more water!

For Acne:

Add a spot of toothpaste to a pimple to relieve redness.

Boil 3 tbsp. basil leaves in 1 cup of water, use as an astringent.

Wipe your face with apple cider vinegar, cut 50/50 with water.

Mix 1/4-cup witch hazel, 2 tbsp. Aloe Vera gel, and 2 tsp. tea tree oil. Pat onto face with a cotton ball.

Use a mango facemask to unclog pores. Blend the pulp of a mango and put it onto your face; let dry, and wash off.

For Blackheads:

Add Elmer’s glue to the face, let dry and pull off. This will remove blackheads.

A lemon rubbed over the nose will help remove dirt from the pores.

For Age Spots:

Cucumber juice or puree on the face ca be used as either an astringent or a mask.

Make a facemask out of mashed chickpeas.

Rub the skin with papaya juice and wash normally.

For Wrinkles:

Make a facemask out of two tsp. apple cider vinegar and mashed banana. Let the banana dry and wash off.

Apply Miracle Whip to the face until it dries, wash off.

Simple Facemasks:

Blend 1 banana, 2tbsp. honey, 2 tbsp. sour cream.

Mix cornmeal with water until thick.

Blend ½ a peeled cucumber, 1 tbsp. plain yogurt, 1 tsp. honey, and 2-3 strawberries.

Blend an avocado with plain yogurt.

Puree 1 apricot with 2 tbsp. dry milk powder.

Applesauce and chopped fresh spearmint or mint.

Anti- Itch:

Witch hazel removes itch from burns and bites.

Dry Skin:

Rub a slice of raw potato on the skin.

Rinse your face with buttermilk.

Oily Skin:

Mix ½ cup of cooked oatmeal, 1 egg white, and ½ cup of applesauce into a facemask. Leave on for 15 mins.

Wipe your face with plain yogurt to remove excess oil.

Mild Irritations:

For minor burns add a small amount of tooth gel to the burn.

Use jojoba oil to reduce swelling.

For chapped hands apply glycerin.

Apply a banana or honey to a burn.

Tea tree oil can be used instead of Neosporin to fight infection.

Add lavender oil to a bath to sooth insect bites.

For bee or jellyfish stings use unseasoned meat tenderizer to neutralize the venom.

Sunburn:

Brewed tea in the bath will sooth sunburn as will aloe.

Dark Circles:

Cucumber slices under the eyes remove dark circles and sooth red eyes.

Carefully wipe under eyes with tomato juice.

Massage eyes with almond oil.

Apply a mix of milk and honey under your eyes and then wash off after one hour.

Drink two glasses of cranberry juice a day.

As we get older, the pathways in our brain begin to lose their strength. Memories are associated with these pathways and its important to find ways to preserve them and their power.

As we get older, the pathways in our brain begin to lose their strength. Memories are associated with these pathways and its important to find ways to preserve them and their power. There are many exercises, both mental and physical to stimulate the brain and bring back some of its youth. There are also certain foods (both nutritious and delicious) that can help aid in conserving brain power.

Physical exercise stimulates circulation in your body, therefore allowing more oxygen to reach your brain. By doing so, more nutrients are supplied
to it. Going for a brisk walk in the morning, walking up and down the stairs or even bike riding are excellent ways to get the circulation of blood going in your brain and body. Regular physical exercise can also help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and help you keep a healthy blood pressure level. Elevated levels of blood pressure are not good for the brain, as they can lead to a stroke. Keeping your heart rate up by exercising also reduces levels of stress and depression which can both be damaging to brain cells.

Mental exercises are extremely important in preserving brain power. Try different word and number games that stimulate the pathways. Sudoku is a fantastic number game that will get you thinking and concentrating.
Word games such as crosswords, which force you to remember random facts, and Scrabble are also fun and healthy for the brain.

A unique way to preserve your brain power is to try doing routine things with your non dominant hand or foot. One example is brushing your teeth with your right hand, if you are left handed. It allows the brain to use pathways that are dormant because they aren’t used often.
Try kicking a soccer ball with your non dominant foot.

Antioxidants are found in food that is full of nutrients and can prevent free radicals from damaging the body’s cells. This in turn can prevent heart disease and cancer, but the brain reaps benefits as well. Antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables with an abundance of color. Make it a daily routine to include carrots, red and yellow bell peppers and tomatoes
in the salads you eat. Berries such as blueberries and raspberries are full of antioxidants and can easily be tossed into morning cereals and smoothies.

Sometimes in this go go go lifestyle, we get too used to just throwing things away. But with the economy the way it is, and more and more people going green, we all should consider ways to make our old things new again.

1.Repaint- if you have a piece of wood furniture that no longer matches your décor, try giving it a new color. Visit your local hardware to buy a stripping agent, strip off the old paint, and get to painting. Be creative with stencils, which are very easy to use if you get the correct stencil paint.

2.Re-tee- if a favorite tee shirt isn’t working out for you anymore, try making it into something new. I would recommend a tee shirt pillow. This is a great idea for kids who have grown out of their favorite shirts. If your tee shirt isn’t a favorite, or is in bad condition try cutting it into squares and using the pieces as dust rags.

3.Reuphosleter- if your old chairs don’t match your décor anymore, try re-covering their seats. Many chair seats lift out and can be reupholstered, just pop out the staples, recover, and staple back with a staple gun. This also works for pillows, just make a pillowcase out of the material of your choice and pop in the old pillow.

4.Polish or Refinish- is your table, or another piece of wood furniture scratched? That is easily fixed with furniture polish. If scratches are too deep try stripping the piece and refinishing it.

5.Stain it- is your glass door or window boring? Making stained glass is easier than you think. Stain glass kits can be found at most craft stores and stencils make it even easier.

6. Clean- use a lemon peel and salt to clean stains off of dishes and mugs. Boil apple slices in greasy pots to remove blackened grease.

7. Remove Scratches and Scuffs- some of the biggest problems we have with our things are scratches and scuffs, but they can also be the easiest to fix. Use toothpaste to remove scratches from CD’s or a banana peel to remove scuffs from shoes. Try using a car buffer to remove scratches from your hardwood floors. Use jeweler’s rough and a soft buffing pad to remove scratches on glass, and then clean with water and ammonia.

8. Combine- take old candles that have been burned down and combine them. You can do this by heating them and then pouring them together. This can also be done with chips of soap by melting the chips and pouring them into a soap mold.

9. Reuse- scrub the labels off of jars and reuse them to store things or for crafts. Reuse things such as soap bottles by refilling them. Cut apart old Christmas cards to make gift tags. Use old dryer sheets to clean showers; they work well to remove soap scum.

10. Make a Mosaic- Use old glass bottles, vases, scratched CD’s, and est. to make a mosaic. Just smear your surface with grout and place your pieces. This can be done on tabletops, vases, and more.

Beer, it is the oldest known beverage (other than water) in inexistence, as well as the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the world. But there are a lot of things people don’t know about beer.

To start, there are seven main varieties of beer:

Ale- a type of beer brewed from malted barley and hops, using a type of yeast that is top-fermented. This type of beer is fermented quickly to give it a full-bodied, mildly sweet, and fruity taste.

Pale ale or Bitter- is a type of beer where the malt is dried with a fuel called coke. Is crisply carbonated and varies in strength and appearance.

Stout or Port- is a dark beer made of roasted malt or barley, hops, water, and yeast. Stouts tend to be stronger beers and come in many varieties.

Irish or Dry Stout- a black ale that is very dark in color and has the flavor of coffee. Guinness stout is an example.

Imperial stout- a brew invented for Catherine II of Russia in the 1700’s, it has a high alcohol content.

Baltic port- a port with a higher alcohol content, made for the Baltic region.

Milk Stout- is a brew with a small amount of lactose added to add sweetness and body to the beer. An example is Mackeson Stout.

Oatmeal stout- is a very bitter beer in which oats are added during the brewing process. This is a rare and hard to find drink.

Chocolate stout- is named for its dark color and chocolate flavor; some of these beers are brewed with small amounts of chocolate.

Coffee stout- is a dark malt brew with the flavor of coffee; some of these beers are brewed with coffee grounds.

Oyster stout- a stout made for drinking with oysters; some of these drinks are even made with a handful of oysters in the brew.

Lager-is a beer that is brewed and stored cold. Lager is also produced with a different yeast and fermenting method than ale. Lagers tend to be light in color, mild in taste, and highly alcoholic.

Wheat beer- is made from mostly wheat and some barely. Flavor is based on brewing method and style of beer.

Hybrid beers- are beers that don’t fit into other categories, like bottom fermented and steam beers.

Lambic- is a Belgian beer that is fermented with wild yeasts; this is an aromatic, cloudy, acidic beer. It comes in pure, gueuze, marz, faro, kriek, and fruit (raspberry, blackcurrant, peach, apple, pineapple, plum, banana, apricot, strawberry, grape, lemon, blueberry, and cloudberry) varieties.

An important part of beer flavor is how it is packaged. It can be kept in the following ways:

Draught- draught beer is kept in a keg pressured with nitrogen or carbon dioxide. Nitrogen pressure allows for a frothier creamier tasting beer with a “bigger head”.

Cask- cask beers are unfiltered and not pasteurized and are fed by gravity into the glass.

Bottle- bottled beers keep some yeast, which allow for some sediment.

Cans- cans are the most inexpensive form of packaging, and are typically only for cheaper beers. Although used for cheep beers, the can is best for preventing light from ruining the beer.

Temperature also affects the flavor of beer, cold beer is considered refreshing while warm beer is considered to allow a person to better taste the flavors of a full bodied beer.

Some beer brewing nations include Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium. the United States, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Australia, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan, China, and many others.

As we get older, trying to get those eight hours of sleep every night becomes a bit of a challenge. This may no longer be the case. You might be snacking on the wrong foods that keep your body stimulated before you hit the sack. Certain foods that can help you get a better night sleep and get those eight hours so you can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start your day.

The myth of drinking a warm glass of milk before bedtime is no joke. Dairy foods include a good source of tryptophan which is the same thing in turkey. Your body converts tryptophan into melatonin and serotonin, which is linked to inducing sleep. Another food that has melatonin is cherries. Eating either fresh or dried cherries before bedtime may help you sleep better.

There are several other food remedies you can try. Eating a few crackers, a small bowl of cereal of oatmeal, half a bagel with some cream cheese or even peanut butter, a sliced apple with an ounce of cheese or even eight ounces of yogurt with some granola sprinkled on top will do the trick.

Bedtime snacks should be a small amount of food, and shouldn’t be more than 200 calories. If you are still finding it hard to get a good night sleep, there might be things you are doing or foods you want to avoid that could keep you from getting your beauty rest.

You want to avoid drinking lots of water. Excessive water intake means waking up more in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Spicy foods, particularly those who are prone to heartburn can keep you up all night tossing and turning. Protein is also something you do not want to consume too much of before bedtime due to the fact that protein contains amino acids which stimulate brain activity.

Eating too much can also play a large factor in falling asleep. Your body continues to breakdown your meal making it impossible for you to fall asleep easily. Caffeine, everyone knows is a stimulant and can amplify the activity of your nervous system, so stay away from anything that has caffeine before bedtime otherwise you will be staying up a lot longer than you anticipated.

If at all possible, you want to eat dinner three hours before your anticipated bedtime. These are merely suggestions, should you really have any problems falling asleep, you might consider seeing a doctor.

With the economy spiraling down jobs are being cut left and right. You find yourself asking, what chance to I have? There [...]

With the economy spiraling down jobs are being cut left and right. You find yourself asking, what chance to I have? There are a few things on your end that you can do to ensure a positive outcome with all of your interviews. You are trying to sell yourself to a total stranger and most interview situations make you uneasy. All you have to do to make this situation a little more painless is to be prepared! The proper preparation before every interview will help lighten the stress involved. Keep these tips in mind for all your interviews:

Practice

Practice answering interview questions and responses to those questions. Think of actual examples that your skills have benefitted you from previous employment. Providing actual examples can definitely market you to the interviewer.

Prepare

Prepare responses so you are ready for any question that comes your way. Doing research on the company before the initial interview is a big plus. It shows the interviewer you took the time to look up the company and that you prepared for the interview. Knowing any information on the company can help you when answering questions during the interview.

Your Best Performance

Make sure you are at your best for your interview. The night before, make sure you get a good night rest so that you are refreshed and ready for the interview in the morning. Eat breakfast and do some last minute prepping for the interview.

Personal Appearance

Dress to impress. Make sure you are well groomed, clean cut, and you wear professional attire. If you know the type of dress the office you are interviewing with is, then dress accordingly. However, always wearing a nice suit and tie gives off a professional attitude.

Be On Time

Be on time for your interview. It’s best to show up five to ten minutes early if possible. If you have the time, look up directions to the office beforehand or make a trip to the office a day before to make sure you know the correct route to take.

Network

If anyone you know works at the company you are about to interview at, ask them if they know anything about the hiring manager that you can use as leverage during your interview. Being able to relate to the hiring manager may make your interview go a lot smoother.

Questions, Questions, Questions

Who says asking questions is a bad thing? Asking good solid questions during your interview shows the interviewer that you are prepared. Ask questions about the positions, the company, and any concerns you may have. Sometimes, only answering the questions, is not enough. If you have the time, while you are researching the company, make a list of questions that you may have.

Impress

Always give a firm handshake when initially meeting the interviewer. If applicable, bring your portfolio to show what you can do to your potential employer. Always bring copies of your resume. Don’t assume the interviewer will have a copy, and in case other you meet other people during your interview, you want to be able to hand them a copy of your resume if they ask for one. When answering questions about previous employment, try to link them to the job you are interviewing for. Know what’s on your resume. Bring a list of your references even though an employer may not ask for them, offer it anyways.

Stay Calm

During the interview, do your best to relax and stay calm. If you need to, take a moment to regroup. Listen to the questions, think about your answer, and maintain eye contact when talking to the interviewer. You don’t want to silently freak out in your head and when it comes to your answer for the questions you not know how to answer because you weren’t paying attention. Just take a deep breath and you will be A-OK!

Follow Up

Always follow-up with a thank you note and reiterate your interest in the position. If you interviewed with several people, be sure to send a note to each one. A hand written note seems to be the best way to thank someone. It’s personal and handwritten and shows the person that you care enough to take the time to sit down and write a not for them. Also, it’s surprising since most people send an e-mail.

Keep in mind; these are a few suggestions on what you can do to help you improve your interview. Be smart, sharp and use your head and you will have no problem landing the job!

Do [...]

Now that you know how to built your credit, it is imperative to use it wisely and to take advantage of it.

Do not be afraid to use your credit cards, they are a great tool, if used properly.

Make use of your grace period and billing cycles, meaning you can use your credit card and not pay interest on your purchases for about a month or two depending on when the purchase was made during the billing cycle.

Don’t forget to make money using your credit card.

That is correct, you can make money with your credit card. If you have built good credit as previously covered, you will begin to see great loan offers in no time. Companies often offer no annual fees and 0% APR on balance transfers and purchases for up to a year, sometimes even longer. What’s that mean? It means you are able to use their money interest free for an entire year! Of course you’ll still have to make a monthly payment in most cases, but it is still essentially a free loan.

Why not take advantage of this and invest the money in virtually risk-less CD or money market account. As of this date, banks are offering around 5% interest on CDs and certain online banks have money market accounts with over 4% interest. The difference between the two is in the liquidity of the account; a CD cannot be cashed out for an agreed upon period of time without penalties, while a money market account may be closed at any time.

So if you qualify for a $10,000 balance transfer, you could easily make 400 to 500 at the end of the year without much effort, simply by depositing the money from your credit card into this new account.

Note: Make sure you read your Credit Card agreement carefully to prevent any hidden fees for balance transfers.

Additionally, it may not be wise to invest in any other products or securities, such as stocks or mutual funds with your credit card since there is a greater potential for loss. With a bank insured by FDIC, the federal government guarantees your money for up to a $100,000 making your CD or money market account virtually risk-less; so stick with banks unless you are willing to lose your shirt and pants.

Collect points, get rewards and discounts.

If you are able to control your spending without using cash, utilize the points and discounts that you can acquire by using your cards. Some cards offer up to 5% cash back in points or actual cash when used for purchases of certain products. So the next time you pump your gas or buy groceries, use that Visa or MasterCard an wait for that end of the year check, coupons or flight miles!
